The case study in the city of Arnhem will support the new policy approach which is being developed in the Arnhem-Nijmegen City Region and involves many stakeholders (please refer to case 1).
The city of Arnhem will work on the implementation of the new structure vision for the city which focuses on the links between energy and spatial policies in future urban transformations, e.g. the renewal of urban districts dating from the 70’s and 80’s. The city of Arnhem is investing new policies and developments concerning sustainable energy and spatial development. The new structure vision for the city presents new city-wide principles for geothermal energy and puts forward a future agenda focusing on new links between energy- and spatial policies:
- spatial implications have to be elaborated in a new city-wide energy-strategy (the new city-wide energy-strategy is currently in development);
- realisation of ambitious energy-efforts in future urban transformations, e.g. the renewal of urban districts dating from the 70’s and 80’s.
In these future activities the municipality intends the application of mapping tables, GIS-supported interactive drawing tables. The case will also be evaluated at a higher level, by the steering committee of the ‘Green Agreement’ and will thus contribute to a structured approach for the whole city region.
